The second event in the CSaP's Associate Seminar series will discuss Working on the Inside: Opportunities for scientists to work inside policy making.

The third event in the CSaP's distinguished lecture series will be given on 7 June 2010 by the journalist and broadcaster Sarah Mukherjee.

How can government be an intelligent user of science? Dr Parker will argue for a fundamental change in the way in which Whitehall and Westminster approach evidence-based policy making.

The Centre for Science and Policy (CSaP) is holding a dinner on 12 May with guest speaker Professor Sir Mark Walport, Director of the Wellcome Trust, to discuss the policy implications of recent rapid advances in human genomics.

The Centre for Science and Policy in collaboration with the PHG Foundation will co-host a series of expert workshops to develop an independent response to the House of Lords Science and Technology Committee Report published in June 2009.

The Centre for Science and Policy is launching its Associate Seminar Series on 27 January 2010 with a session addressing the question "How should the policy impact of scientific research be measured?"

The CSaP inaugural lecture will take place on 18 January and will be delivered by Professor David Mackay, Chief Scientific Adviser for DECC. Professor Mackay will discuss lessons and insights from his first 100 days in Government.

This workshop will examine the phenomenon of catastrophe and challenge the assumptions of unpredictability. Wide ranges of potential causes of extreme disruption for society and the economy, as well as the approaches to quantifying and comparing different threats will be explored.

The University of Cambridge is to host an international workshop on the "Implications of Climate Change and Variability on African Water Resources".

The Centre for Science and Policy and the Cambridge Conservation Initiative are planning a joint workshop for DEFRA on the Valuation of Ecosystems, to take place in Cambridge on 3 September 2009.
